This piece is my own interpretation of the Bush Viper, a snake known for its striking texture, vibrant colors, and hypnotic presence. I was drawn to its intricate anatomy and the way its scales shift in rhythm and density across the body.
Capturing this in clay was both a technical and creative challenge—especially given the dynamic pose I chose, which required careful planning to maintain balance, tension, and flow.
Technique: Hand-built.

I spent a long time studying the Bush Viper’s form, striving to reflect its natural symmetry and anatomical precision while also giving it my personal touch. The texture changes subtly from head to tail, and I carved each scale with intention, honoring the animal’s complexity and elegance.
This sculpture is a celebration of wild beauty, detail, and patience—an ode to the art of observation and the challenge of transforming it into a tangible object.
Once I considered it finished, I realized I wasn’t satisfied with how the eyes looked. They felt off—too rigid—so I reworked them to be more abstract and truer to the essence of the snake’s gaze. You can see both of the options in the images below.
On the other hand, due to mishandling during transportation, the tongue of the piece broke. I had to carefully repair it and rework the sculpture using what remained.
