2/3

This piece is one of three in the Fungi Kingdom series, a collection inspired by the rich forms and textures found in the fungal world. For this work, I used one of my most exclusive custom clay bodies, formulated with cobalt oxide, which naturally imparts a deep blue hue and a soft satin finish to the surface.

The form was wheel-thrown, and the surrounding petal-like elements were individually hand-modeled and meticulously attached.

Measurements: 22 cm x 22 cm x h 17 cm / 8.6 in x 8.6 in x h 6.6 in
The design is inspired by certain types of fungi that develop collar-like structures around their bodies, evoking the delicate form of flower petals — a natural detail I reinterpreted through the sculptural language of this piece.
This piece explores the interplay between form, texture, and surface through a combination of sculpted and carved elements. Inspired by natural petal formations, I developed a layered texture by hand-modeling petal-like shapes and carving into both the petals and the main body of the piece. These interventions create a dynamic surface that invites touch and close observation.
To enhance the visual depth, I selectively applied glaze using a specialized brush, allowing me to highlight certain areas of each petal while leaving others unglazed. This contrast between matte and glossy zones emphasizes the texture and adds a subtle rhythm to the overall composition.
