3/3
This ceramic sculpture is part of a three-piece series inspired by the mysterious world of the fungi kingdom. Wheel-thrown and then carefully altered, the piece features manually attached curved elements that create a dynamic, layered texture along the surface.
Measurements: 15 cm x 15 cm x h 27,5 cm / 5.9 in x 5.9 in x h 10.8 in
Like the other pieces in the series, it is crafted from one of my custom mid-temperature stoneware clay bodies. As both an artist and ceramicist, developing my own clay recipes allows me to create work that is deeply aligned with my personal vision. This practice adds a layer of authenticity and individuality to each piece, grounding my work in the alchemical process of transforming raw materials from the earth into meaningful, expressive forms.
Additional textures were hand-carved into the back of the form, enhancing its tactile and visual complexity. While the primary inspiration came from fungi, the final piece also draws on forms and textures found in tree bark, and has even been compared by viewers to organic marine life, such as jellyfish.
Functionally, the sculpture serves as a vase, with a central opening at the top and a height that supports floral arrangements. Through this piece, I explored the intersection of nature, abstraction, and utility — blurring the line between sculpture and functional object.
